Incorrect Pruning

STOP THE KILLING

Each year thousands of trees are killed by well meaning people who try to prune without sufficient knowledge of what a tree needs to thrive. That damage is compounded be-cause the life force of many trees is so powerful that it may take years before a tree ac-tually dies from incorrect pruning, even though the death sentence was handed out when the wound was made. Many trees however die within months of incorrect pruning.
We see incorrect pruning all around us. People believe this is the thing to do to trees because they see so much of it. They believe cutting a tree is like cutting a lawn. You just cut it to the height of the blades, or cut it to the height of the ladder.

THIS IS THE WRONG APPROACH

It shortens the life of the tree, disfigures the natural form, causes wounds the tree can’t heal, makes sites for infection and invasion of pathogens. Decomposition organisms, mushrooms, fungi, and bacteria can all get access to the tree if the tree is incorrectly cut.
